Top 5 Views In Prague

Czech Republic Prague Tyn Cathedral Skyline

Prague is called the “City of a Thousand Spires” for a reason. Atop every tower and church there are spires painted in gold that make the sunset sky look like a still ocean sprinkled with golden pearls.

If you are lucky enough to be atop these towers at this time, you will be in for one of the best photo ops ever.

Here are my top outlooks in the city that will give you some perspective of the vastness and beauty that is Prague. Entry is listed below for each tower, but be sure to check for specials online. Often online booking includes a 10% discount.

Old Town Hall Astronomical Clock

Czech Republic Astronomical Clock

This was the first tour of Prague when I arrived. The Astronomical Clock is located at the very heart of the Old Town Square. It remains my favorite because rather than being outside looking in, you are in the heart of the city looking out.

The tower is 230 feet high with the observation deck being at 138 ft above the Old Town Square and offers great views of Prague Castle, Charles Bridge, and the city center.

Entry is 250 CZK and is half price if you buy the tickets within the first hours of opening between 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM. You can walk the ramp up to the top or take an elevator for an additional fee.

Grand South Tower

The Grand South Tower is located in St. Vitus Cathedral located inside Prague Castle. Fair warning – it is a 280 step climb to the top of the tower, but if you are willing to make the trek then the view is quite spectacular (again one of my favorites).

Prague Castle is located on top of the highest hill in the city, so the top of this tower gives you an incredible view looking down both sides of the Vltava River.

Entry to the tower is 150 CZK and half price for children 6 – 16 and university students, and seniors 65+.

Petrin Lookout Tower

As one of the most iconic landmarks of Prague, it was constructed in 1891 and took inspiration from the Eiffel Tower.

You can get to the top of Petrin hill via cable car for 24 CZK or hike it if you are up to it.

The observation deck is a grueling 299 steps but will give you an incredible view of the entire metropolis. Entry will run you 150 CZK.

Old Town Bridge Tower

Charles bridge in Prague, Czech republic

Arching above the east entrance to St. Charles Bridge sits one of the oldest views of Prague. The tower itself represents the triumphal arch on the Royal Route to Prague Castle.

The deck is 138 steps up and its outlook gives you an impressive perspective of the Vltava River and downtown Prague. Entry costs 150 CZK.

Powder Gate Tower

Power Gate Tower doesn’t have the highest observation deck standing at only 144 ft. but has very strong historical significance and is a nice view of the inner city.

Construction started in 1475 and it was designed to be more attractive than an actual defensive structure being decorated with the gothic style.

It was used to store gunpowder during the 17th century, hence the name “The Powder Tower”.

It represented the entrance to the Royal Route leading to Prague Castle. Entry is 150 CZK.
